Program Overview

The B.Eng. in Engineering Mechanics equips graduates with rigorous analytical foundations and the inventive capacity to tackle open-ended problems. Our students develop deep expertise in mathematical and physical modeling, computational simulation, and experimental methods, enabling them to serve as technical leaders in mechanical systems, aerospace, and emerging engineering frontiers.

We cultivate engineers with broad interdisciplinary perspective, strong theoretical grounding, and hands-on capability—graduates who can adapt to multicultural, global workplaces and who recognize the foundational, enabling role of mechanics across engineering domains.


Program Learning Outcomes

1. Exercise professional responsibility with integrity, demonstrating ethical judgment and social awareness in engineering practice.

2. Understand the landscape of mechanics—its historical evolution, current frontiers, and capacity to drive innovation at the intersection of disciplines.

3. Apply mathematical and physical reasoning to identify core mechanics problems within mechanical, materials, and related engineering systems, and address them with rigorous methods.

4. Command the theoretical foundations of theoretical mechanics, mechanics of materials, continuum mechanics, vibrations, fluid mechanics, computational mechanics, and experimental mechanics; model physical phenomena quantitatively and assess the scope and limits of each theoretical framework.

5. Execute experiments and computations with proficiency—ranging from foundational laboratory work to advanced techniques in structural health monitoring and micro/nano-scale testing, and from commercial simulation software to custom programming for engineering analysis.

6. Investigate and solve problems using the methods of mechanics research, demonstrating practical engineering judgment and the ability to formulate, analyze, and resolve technical challenges.

7. Leverage information technology to acquire, process, and apply data and knowledge in mechanics and allied fields.

8. Communicate globally with professional fluency in a foreign language, engaging in cross-cultural collaboration and international technical discourse.

9. Lead and communicate effectively—writing technical reports and design documents, presenting to professional and public audiences, and working productively in teams with organizational and interpersonal skill.

10. Embrace sustainability, safety, and lifelong learning—applying critical thinking and innovation to adapt to evolving technological and societal demands.

Graduate Pathways

The program sits within a complete mechanics research ecosystem at Jiangsu University, encompassing M.S. and Ph.D. programs and a postdoctoral research program in Mechanics.

Outstanding undergraduates may gain direct admission to M.S. or Ph.D. study at Jiangsu University or partner institutions, or pursue graduate degrees at leading international universities. The discipline currently hosts 16 Ph.D. advisors and 34 M.S. advisors.


Career Outlook

Engineering Mechanics graduates enter a wide spectrum of industries: civil and hydraulic engineering, mechanical and control systems, microelectronics, energy and transportation, and aerospace.
