Doctoral Degree Program in Agricultural Electrification and Automation
Agricultural Electrification and Automation is a foundational discipline at Jiangsu University, with undergraduate program enrollment starting in 1960. We were among the first universities in China to establish this field, and in 2000 we became the second institution nationwide—after China Agricultural University—to confer doctoral degrees in the discipline. The program has earned successive distinctions as a Jiangsu Provincial Key Discipline (10th and 11th Five-Year Plans) and, in 2007, as a National Key Discipline.
Over four decades, we have built a dynamic, innovation-driven faculty led by young professors and comprising 17 full professors, 15 associate professors, and 26 doctorate holders. Our team includes 9 recipients of national and provincial honors, including the National May 1st Labor Medal, Jiangsu Province Distinguished Teaching Scholar, Jiangsu "333" High-Level Talent Program leaders, Jiangsu Qinglan Project Academic Leaders, and Cross-Century Academic Backbones of the former Machinery Industry Ministry.
Research Infrastructure
Our 3,000-square-meter research complex has received more than eight million in investment over the past five years. The facility houses 24 major equipment suites (each over a hundred thousand in value), including integrated experimental systems and high-performance instrumentation.
Research Scope
Our doctoral research spans: automation and power quality in agricultural electrical systems; automatic control of crop growth processes; environmental monitoring and control for intensive aquaculture and livestock; optimization of microbial growth environments; precision spraying technology; automated harvesting and planting; and information processing in agricultural engineering.
Research Impact
We have completed 30+ national projects (NSFC, National 863, National Science and Technology Tackling, National Agricultural Technology Transformation) and nearly 100 provincial/ministerial projects, alongside 20+ industry-sponsored contracts each exceeding one million in funding. Recent accolades include 5 first-class, 9 second-class, and ~20 third-class provincial/ministerial science and technology progress awards. Scholarly output: 20+ monographs and textbooks, 300+ papers (100+ SCI/EI), and 26 invention patents. We maintain close industry-university-research partnerships with Jiangsu Changjiang Group and Jiangsu Huaxia Group, and numerous technologies have been commercialized—contributing significantly to agricultural electrification, automation, and digitalization across China, especially in the south.
Teaching Excellence
Our educational innovations have earned National Teaching Achievement Awards, National Quality Course designation, First Prize in the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, and Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Special Prize. Our discipline leader is a Jiangsu Province Distinguished Teaching Scholar.
Talent Development
Since 2001, we have enrolled 32 doctoral and 160 master's students. We also deliver professional certificate programs and short courses for industry, having trained 800+ application-oriented engineers.
Global Engagement
Since 2001, we have hosted 9 major domestic and international conferences, sent 12 faculty to international academic events, participated in 5 international cooperation projects, and hosted 10 visiting scholars.
